Pakistan Elected Head of G-77 Group . Seventy-seven developing countries signed the “Joint Declaration of the Seventy-Seven Developing Countries” issued at the close of the inaugural session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva on 15 June 1964, Pakistan Selected Head of G-77 Group, forming the Group of 77 (G-77). Beginning with the first “Ministerial Meeting of the Group of 77 in Algiers (Algeria) on 10–25 October 1967, which adopted the Charter of Algiers,” a permanent institutional structure gradually emerged, leading to the establishment of Chapters of the Group of 77 with Liaison offices in Geneva (UNCTAD), Nairobi (UNEP), Paris (UNESCO), Rome (FAO/IFAD), Vienna (UNIDO), and Washington, D.C. (IMF and World Bank). Despite the fact that the G-77 now has 134 members, the original name was kept because of its historical relevance. Pakistan Selected Head of G-77 Group

Aims and Objectives of G-77

The Group of 77 is the United Nations’ largest intergovernmental organization of developing countries, providing a platform for developing countries to articulate and promote their common economic interests, strengthen their joint negotiating capacity on all major international economic issues, and promote South-South cooperation for development.
